Function-oriented Knowledge Bases
A Function-oriented Knowledge Base contains the information
on how to solve a function-related problem. The engineer
thus focuses only on the function of the technical system
under consideration. Since the Function-oriented Knowledge
Base accumulates the technical problem solutions from
different scientific domains, the engineers have an
expanded search area for solutions. This makes it possible
for the engineer to look beyond his/her experience and
knowledge to new fields, as the ideal solution might
lie outside the engineer’s field of expertise.
